Day 1 Lesson 4 Samson & Pig bones

We left Tel Gezer with the bus and headed for the place where Samson dwelt called Eshtaol. We climbed this mountain and could see down the valley of Timnath where Delilah came from. What can we learn from Samson? Where did Samson go wrong? The valley here in the picture is what was given to the tribe of Dan. What happened to Dan? Why did he move? Was his move prosperous? What can we learn from the tribe of Dan and apply to our life today?

We walked up the hill overlooking the Sorek valley and had another lesson on pig-bones. Remember the Bedouin camp right below the tel? Then we experienced that large cave where JR the hat man led us in a song. Anybody remember the song we sung?

Poor Samson. He really just needed to stick to the plan--be a mighty leader for the Lord--but he should have claimed a community! He spent too much time mulling it over alone, and he looked toward the coastal plain too much, too. Sinned with his eyes, was punished by losing his eyes. Was the song "There is a God?"

Samson did what so many of our people this day in age, we go our own way and we try follow God by ourself and we can clearly see that it does not work,WE NEED COMMUNITY. Bet Shemesh was the place that the Ark of God came back to after its encounter with Dagen. The song was REVIVE US AGAIN, John Jr

Samson was a goat, just like I tend to be. I find it iteresting that Timnah was part of Dan's inheritance. How would the story be different if they would have conquered the city the way God told them to? So the challenge is to conquer the Timnahs when God tells me too, because it will affect future generations.

How often we're like the tribe of Dan wanting what God had given to someone else or maybe its not that we want it so badly but that it looks like its the easier way out of our problems, but God sees the bigger picture He knows whats around the big bend in the path. Or like it was for Dan the many enemies coming our way. Maybe its the talents God has given you or whatever it is God has called you to do, teaching, preaching, working with old people, ect..... are we taking care of what God gave us like we should?

Thanks Cherlyn for the kick in the pants. I left a post last week about Samson and my mind was a little blank this week. I think it was so neat when we were there in that area how that it was all "right there" just as it says in the Bible. The wheat fields, the 'down to Timnah' . . .
Also, I remember the thing of Samson being a Nazarite was supposed to remind the commuity that they are supposed to be different from the world. What do we have that makes us different from the pagan world around us? Use that to let people ask you questions, and then answer with your God story.

Ok, sorry, I don't know why that posted twice. I think I clicked two times. Roy can you take the one off?
Stay in community brothers and sisters! If you're struggling, don't try to do it on your own. Share it with someone.
